Service Description
Lead & Listen in collaboration with Jules Morgan of Teach Your Gundog are excited to offer a brand new gundog course which is a series of seven morning sessions teaching and consolidating the skills and behaviours required to take The Royal Kennel Club’s Working Gundog Certificate Assessment on Dummies. More details about the scheme can be found here: https://www.royalkennelclub.com/media/3008/working_gundog_certificate_handbook.pdf Training will take place at Oakhurst Farm near Loxwood, West Sussex. Your teachers, Jules & Silke, have successfully passed this assessment with their own dogs and have a great deal of experience in running the assessments both on dummies and on live game. In the first week, we will go through all the requirements and establish your baselines from which we will help you to prepare your own personal training plans for the course. Over the following sessions, we will be looking at hunting, retrieving, steadiness, water, shot, obstacles, heel work, social walking, delivery and much more. At the end of the course, we will have a ‘dress rehearsal’ to run through the whole assessment with you. We will establish whether you and your dog are ready to take the assessment at the end of the course and if we have sufficient numbers we will organise an assessment day for you (this will be paid for separately to the training). Date for assessment (TBC) 7th June 2026 Pre-requisite for attending the course: You and your dog have an understanding of the requirements of a basic retrieve (we will work on steadiness and delivery to hand during the course). Your dog is comfortable around other dogs off lead. Your dog can swim and jump a small ditch or low obstacle. You have taught your dog the whistle cues of recall and stop. Your dog has been introduced to the sound of shot and is comfortable around shot from a starter pistol. You do not need to have a KC registered pure bred dog but if you do not, you will need to register your dog to the KC Activities Register.
