Terms and Conditions


The following policies are in the interests of all participants and their dogs and by registering for a class with Lead & Listen you agree to the following:

  1. Please contact us before enrolling if your dog has aggression issues. Dogs that have aggression and fear concerns will need one on one intervention before enrolling in a group class environment.
  2. Keep your dog close to you and under control at all times.
  3. Dogs are to be kept on a lead unless instructed otherwise during a training exercise.
  4. Do not allow your dog to approach other dogs. Despite the need for owners to socialise their dogs, a strange dog approaching a sensitive dog can cause them to show aggression as a defence strategy.
  5. Lead & Listen have the right to remove a dog and owner from the class (without a refund) if they feel the dog’s behaviour is not managed adequately by the owner and is therefore putting the other participants at risk.
  6. Please encourage your dogs to relieve themselves before class.
  7. Should a dog relieve themselves before or during class, anywhere in or outside the training area, the owner will need to clean up and dispose of the waste in a suitable bin.
  8. All dogs should be fully protected by vaccination before attending classes.
  9. Do not bring a sick dog or a bitch in seasons to class. We encourage you to still attend on your own as most of the learning can be done without the dog present.
  10. Harsh handling is strongly discouraged. If it continues after an initial warning, the dog and owner will be asked to leave (without a refund).
  11. The dog and any other person that is brought to class is the owner’s sole responsibility.
  12. Lead & Listen cannot accept responsibility of any injury, loss or damage to person or property that occurs whilst attending a class.
  13. Children are welcome and encouraged but they cannot attend on their own (without adult supervision) if under 18 years old.
  14. To secure your booking, your registration form and payment will need to have been received at least three weeks before course start date. Payment can be made by cheque or bank transfer (details on registration form).
  15. Refunds cannot be given after the course has started. One week before course start date refunds are only available in exceptional circumstances (as decided by Lead & Listen).
  16. Refunds for workshops are as follows: 75% of fees paid – 6 or more months prior to event, 50% of fees paid – between 6 and 3 monthsprior, no refund less than 3 months prior to the event.


Please read the Classes section above and in addition note that:

  1. Payment will be due in cash or by cheque at the end of your session unless otherwise agreed. If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, your payment should be received by the start of your session.
  2. Should you be running late, please inform us of your delay if possible. It may still be feasible to run the session, although your session may not be extended beyond your booked slot.
  3. If for any reason you need to cancel your one-to-one, please contact us as soon as you know, so we can offer your slot to another client. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will still incur the full fee.

Dog Walking

In addition to the above please note that:

  1. Full payment for services are to be paid in advance for the month ahead by bank transfer or cash.
  2. A minimum of 2 days dog walking per week is required.
  3. Christmas / New Year and bank holidays will incur an additional charge of 50%. Weekend walking prices will be at the discretion of Lead and Listen.
  4. 10 days holiday allowance is given each year. After the 10 days is used up any extra days taken is charged at the full rate.
  5. The client must provide all items necessary for dogs to be adequately cared for in the client’s absence, i.e. food, leads, tags and collars, harnesses, poo bags, towels etc. All dogs MUST have an identity tag attached to their collar.
  6. If it is necessary for keys to be collected and returned in order to complete an assignment, charges will be applied for each trip to cover travel expenses.
  7. The client must provide Lead and Listen with the name and contact number of someone capable of making a responsible decision relating to the dog in the case of an emergency. If the contact is not available Lead and Listen reserves the right to consult with a veterinary surgeon and then make a decision which is in the best interests of the animal. This will only be done as a last resort after multiple attempts at contact with the client cannot be made.
  8. The client is responsible for any veterinary bills, no matter how they are incurred, whilst pets are in the care of Lead and Listen.
  9. The utmost care will be given in watching your pet. However, due to the extreme unpredictability of animals, Lead and Listen will not be held liable by the client for the disappearance, death or injury of pets or animals through no fault of Lead and Listen. If you require your dog to be allowed off the lead, Lead and Listen requires that you accept full responsibility if your dog runs away, gets lost or injured.
  10. For any cancellations of bookings, Lead and Listen requires a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. If the required notice is not given, charges will be applied in full for the cancelled period, at the discretion of Lead and Listen.
  11. All dogs being exercised must be fully vaccinated and on a regular flea and worm control regime.
  12. Bitches in season cannot be walked as they need to be walked on lead individually and away from other dogs.
  13. All dogs being exercised will undergo a trial period to ensure they are adequately trained and socialized. Lead and Listen reserves the right to cancel the contract at any time with sufficient notice if the dog does not respond well to the walker and/or other dogs, if applicable.
  14. A dogs behaviour must be explained openly and honestly – we are happy to work with dogs that have behavioural issues but we must know in advance before putting any of our other dogs or ourselves at risk. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of any future booking.
  15. Lead and Listen has Public Liability Insurance to the value of £5,000,000. This includes cover for the loss and / or damage to third party property and / or bodily injury to third party / persons and or domestic pets.
  16. If your dog does show signs of aggression we have not be made aware of and causes harm to any person or animal whilst in our care you will be responsible for any cost incurred. Therefore we highly recommend your dog is insured and covered for third party liability.
  17. In the event of inclement weather or natural disaster, Lead and Listen is entrusted to use reasonable judgment in caring for your pet(s). Lead and Listen shall not be held responsible for any consequences related to such decisions unless Lead and Listen has acted negligently.
  18. If dogs require a quick toweling off after walks, towels must be provided by the client and left by the front/back door.
  19. Where necessary, and at the discretion of Lead and Listen, dogs may be walked in a group, known as a pack walk. Only suitable dogs will be walked together in this way.
  20. Should the assigned Lead and Listen walker be taken ill or have to leave the house in an emergency then every effort will be taken to obtain the services of an alternative trusted and insured dog walker if necessary.

Boarding and Day Care

With your booking you agree to the following in addition to the rest of these terms:

  1. No dog will be accepted if it has or has had an aggression problem with people or other animals.
  2. Your dog will treated as part of our family and that includes 3 other dogs and 3 children ages 9-14.  Please consider before you book, if your dog will be happy in this environment.  We will always be happy to arrange a trial visit.
  3. Provided you are supplying your dog’s food, boarding fees are £30.00 per 24 hour period.
  4. Bitches in season cannot be accepted.
  5. Collection/Delivery times of dogs must be arranged in advance.
  6. Training may be available which is in addition to normal boarding charges.  Your dog will receive the agreed hours of training in addition to house manners which are continual.
  7. Fees are payable 3 weeks before.
  8. If your dog is trained to the whistle, please leave one with us.
  9. Please bring your dog’s food, ensuring that there is enough food for the duration of your dog’s stay.
  10. Reimbursement for damage or veterinary costs incurred by your dog during its stay, will be expected to be paid for in full upon collection of your dog.
  11. Whilst every care is taken to make your dog’s stay with us a happy and enjoyable one, please note that all dogs are left at their owner’s risk and no responsibility can be accepted for sickness, injury or demise of the dog.

Additional Information

Lead & Listen may take photos or videos for social media, advertising or instructional use (which in some cases may be part of the learning event itself). We also like to close our workshops with a group photo in which we hope to see you. If you do not wish to appear in photos or videos at all, please let us know at the beginning of an event.
