Attended a weekend gundog workshop with my WCS . We absolutely loved it - having only done agility previously it was wonderful to see how training and foundation skills interlinked with positive gundog training. Collette was fun and motivating with some fabulous training ideas that would help any dog from pet, obedience, gundog , agility and more . We will definitely be back xx
I trained with Collette when I got my newest golden retriever puppy. I found her lessons well organised with lots of good ideas. She also suggested lots of things to help me settle him down as he was very easily distracted. Hoping that we will be able to come to more gundog classes soon.
I hope this testimonial can adequately express to you how grateful I am for your assistance in helping Betsy our puppy to become a much loved and well-behaved addition to our family. It wasn’t easy coping with a new and very mischievous pup and you have made the transition to having a dog a much easier and less anxious one! From the time prior to getting Betsy to the present day you have been able to quickly identify our puppy's needs and swiftly solve our teething problems! I have been particularly impressed with your level of advice and the responsiveness of your service – you have been truly committed to making our dog a valued part of our family. And I’m so happy to say that we still receive the same dedicated service that we received from day one.
I can thoroughly recommend Collette’s training classes. They are well organised and the training is all based on sound methods – and really works. Our dog Millie is a year old now, and having done the ‘beginners’ course we had no hesitation in signing up for ‘intermediate’. As a result of the training Millie is much more ‘biddable’ than our previous dogs, and we can see marked improvements in our ability to control her as a result of the training – it’s not a magic wand, you have to continually reinforce the training outside class if you want the full benefit of the training, but Collette equips you with the tools you need to succeed. We were heartbroken when we lost our last dog in a road accident that could have been prevented had we been able to ‘recall’ him without fail – so this type of training is, for us, an absolute essential. Of course, half of the psychology of dog training is in training the handler/owner – which Collette does in a charming and friendly way – so don’t worry – it’s nothing like Barbara Woodhouse. Great value – if you have a wayward pooch sign up with Collette asap!
I run a Canine Training & Behaviour Centre in Sussex but even us professionals struggle sometimes!! I got my first working Labrador to train up for SAR, which he is great at, but was struggling to gain focus on general day to day walks, so wanted to try some Gun dog work. I was suggested Collette by a friend and it’s the best thing my dog and I have done. He has a natural talent for it and I am now hooked and l earning to offer it to my clients too. Collette teaches everything in a fun and easy to understand manner, she knows multiple ways to teach one thing and is always ready with some useful advice if required. I would not hesitate to recommend Collette to others and my dog and I are still enjoying regular sessions with Collette.
I have nothing but praise for Collette's teaching. My ESS is a sensitive soul and easily switches off. Using lots of force free techniques and suggestions from Collette we have made great progress in the last year. My dog is now engaged, happy and confident and if we carry on as we are, I am sure, thanks to Collette, Speckle will be a great asset in the shooting field next season.
I travel almost an hour from Kent to train with Collette and it is absolutely worth it. She really understands canine behaviour (and the hander!) and in a group setting is able to make every exercise specific to each individual dog and hander combination. I also regularly attend Collette's workshops and have 1:2:1 lessons. My English Springer Spaniel and I have improved so much since we have been attending and have so much fun in the process. Thoroughly recommend.
At 12 weeks old our Vizsla pup was attacked and had 8 stitches in his face. We worked hard at socialization to help him overcome the trauma and attended regular training classes at 2 gundog training schools. He grew into a very well socialized adolescent and showed no signs of canine PTSD. However, his training became increasingly difficult and he began to shut down. He showed resistance to having a slip lead put on he would cower and back off. He ignored recall, had little or no impulse control and the bond we had developed seemed to disappear overnight. We attended a one to one session with Collette. In less than 45 minutes of chatting and working with Collette using her dog-centric, reward based techniques, I saw my dog again. Since then we have regularly attended training sessions and implemented what we have learnt on a daily basis. We have achieved a % level response for all commands that previously seemed unattainable, all thanks to Collette.
We first met Collette when our dog was only 8 weeks old. Collette visited Jet as a puppy and progressed to group walking once all inoculations had taken place. Jet is now 18 months old and Collette has played a massive part in making her the fantastic dog she is. Collette also gave us the confidence we needed to reinforce the training she had done with her in the training class we attended. I can hand on heart say that finding Collette was the best thing for us and Jet absolutely adores her. Collette is 100% reliable and trustworthy and I would not hesitate to recommend her.
I have been on several Gundog courses run by Collette after going to a traditional Gundog trainer who made me feel very useless. Collette has been unfailingly supportive and enthusiastic about my efforts and, despite having a sensitive and rather too keen dog we have, under her guidance, made huge improvements. Without her careful, thoughtful and considered instruction I certainly would have given up. I thoroughly recommend her.
Collette is one of the most talented people I have met as far as dogs are concerned. Her methods are 100% positive and work where other methods do not, but what I like about her most is that she gets you to see things through the eyes of the dog. Not many people do that - and it's really changed the way I think about things and how I react to my dogs' behaviour and my approach to training. I have attended at least 4 of Collette's courses with 2 different dogs, I've done 1 to 1's with her and she's also given me valuable advice on loads of other topics via email, messenger etc. She is a real inspiration to me with everything she achieves with her dogs. Would recommend her hands down to anyone!
We are about to begin our third course with Collette and our young dog, having started as soon as he was able to go out. This has been great for socialising him and we have all enjoyed the outdoor classes with Collette and her assistant, in which the whole family can participate. We have been introduced to using the click and treat, reward approach and have benefitted greatly from Collette's experience and advice, both during the sessions and through the detailed notes she emails afterwards. Highly recommended.
Had some fantastic 1-2-1 and group sessions by 'lead and listen' for Pepper. I can only highly recommend this very experienced and trained dog trainer. Pepper is by no means perfect, more down to us but it has helped us massively to understand how our dog ticks. Thank you Collette the recall training has paid off and is working perfectly.
I have really enjoyed the beginners and intermediate training classes that my Labrador puppy Barney and I have attended with Collette, both in the hall and in the outside venue. I have also had a one-to-one session to discuss a particular issue which helped enormously. The classes are small to ensure you get as much support and attention as you need. The training is all reward based and the dogs are never punished, which makes the classes a fun and happy environment. Collette then follows up the class with a written summary of what has been covered each week and advice to follow through the week. This is particularly useful as sometimes it can be a lot to take in, so a reminder is brilliant. Barney is now nearly a year old and is developing into a happy, well behaved dog. We will continue to use Collette to improve our skills and relationship together.
