Collette May of Lead and Listen and Colin Pelham of Norlands Gundogs will be teaching this 3 day workshop. This course is taught at their stunning new home in Mid Wales which also offers a small amount of self catering accommodation on site. It is a beautiful part of Wales and there are lots of other lovely holiday accommodation options to stay locally too.
This workshop is for professional trainers working in the pet dog industry and looking to expand their knowledge. Gundogs are a hugely popular breed and fill a lot of our training classes. Many of them develop problem behaviours due to owners not understanding their natural instincts. They work against them rather than with them. This workshop will help you as a trainer gain a better understanding of all the breeds and their needs with regard to what they would do as a job in the shooting field.
Colin is a hugely experienced A panel retriever judge and will explain all the different aspects of the competition and shooting world. Collette trains her dogs for working and for competition using positive reinforcement and has lots of fun ways to train gundogs that will not only get them ready for competition level or work but also be happy and content as pets.
The 3 days will be a mixture of sharing our combined knowledge of everything gundog and also putting into practise the different ways to teach dogs these skills. You do not need to bring a gundog breed, any dog can learn these skills (but the gundogs tend to love it more!). The focus is for us to explain what different behaviours are needed and how it is taught using positive methods.
They will also use their 8 Labradors to demonstrate the high level of training that the dogs need to compete and also show you how to train the different skills required from the beginning.
Whether you have your own gundog and want to consider working or competing with them, or you just want to learn more to enable you to be more knowledgable trainer, this workshop will suit you both.
Each day runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm with a morning break and lunch break. Refreshments will be provided but you will need to bring your own lunch.
