Puppy 2 is our six-week course of one-hour classes for all breed puppies over 6 months.
This course is for dog owners with some previous experience of dog training and/or who have already attended the Puppy 1 course.
The course objective is to give dog owners a practical and theoretical knowledge of the basic commands and training methods required to produce an obedient and happy dog.
Dogs learn at different rates and are better at some things more than others; therefore, exercises will be adapted to suit each dog’s individual ability.
Lead and Listen only use science-based positive training methods to reinforce the behaviours that are desirable from our dogs. Positive reinforcement training is force-free, fun and very effective.

During the course:
- Owners will learn how to train their dogs in the basic commands using positive reinforcement methods (clicker and rewards).
- Learning will come from demonstrations, explanations and practical application.
- Owners will need to practice with their dog, for a short period most days, in order to get the most out of this course.
- Owners will build their knowledge and training skills week by week (as will the dog).
By the end of the course owners should be able to:
- Have a basic understanding of how dogs learn.
- Have an understanding of how to train a dog in the simple commands of sit, stand, down, settle and wait and have successfully taught them to their dog.
- Have introduced walking on a loose lead.
- Have achieved success with the recall command at a short distance with a low distraction level.
- Developed the hand target and mat target.
- Introduced and developed the ‘leave’ and ‘drop’ command and understood when to use them.
- Grooming and examination of the dog are tolerated and hopefully enjoyed.
- Have developed some impulse control around their food bowl, greeting people and doorways.
